ICW Explorer Privacy Policy

Last Updated: October 12, 2026

Coba Apps LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) publishes ICW Explorer (the “App”), a navigation companion for the US East Coast Intracoastal Waterway. This policy explains what the App collects, what it sends off your device, and the choices you have. In short: there are no accounts, we do not track you, and your location stays on your device.

1. Anonymous Usage Analytics

We use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand how the App is used (for example, which features are popular). Analytics signals are sent to TelemetryDeck’s servers (telemetrydeck.com).

  • There is no account, name, email address, or advertising identifier involved.
  • TelemetryDeck assigns a hashed, anonymous, per-install identifier that cannot be traced back to you. It is used only to count distinct users and sessions.
  • The SDK automatically includes the app version, build number, iOS version, device model, language and region, and whether the build is from TestFlight or the App Store.
  • The App reports actions such as launching, syncing data, opening a location by category (for example marina, bridge, or anchorage), pinning, saving a note, changing filters, using the map controls, opening screens, searching, and submitting reports or suggestions.
  • For searches, the App reports only general information: whether you typed a query or used a category button, the category of the top result, how many results were found (as a range such as 0, 1–5, or 6+), and whether you opened a result. It also reports a coarse, 10-mile-wide section of the waterway where the map was positioned (for example, “680”), and this is omitted entirely while the map is locked to follow your location.
  • We do not send your coordinates or position, your exact mile marker, exact map coordinates, direction or speed of travel, the text you type into search, the names or IDs of any location, which places you have pinned, the text of your notes or reports, or any contact details.
  • We do not use analytics for advertising, do not share it with data brokers, and do not track you across other apps or websites.

Opt out: in the App, open Help, go to the Privacy section, and turn off “Share anonymous usage data.” When it is off, nothing is sent.

2. Reports and Suggestions You Submit

If you tap Submit on a report or suggestion, the following is sent to our own service and stored so we can review it and correct the ICW dataset. Nothing is sent unless you submit.

  • Report an Issue: the type of report; any details you type; the reported place’s ID, category, name, mile marker, and coordinates (the place’s, as shown in the App, not your position); for wrong-information reports, the field, its current value, and your suggested value; for wrong-location reports, the coordinates where you placed the pin; the app version; and a timestamp.
  • Suggest a location (from the in-app Apple Maps place card or the iOS share sheet): the place name, category, the place’s coordinates, your notes, the source (Apple Maps or Google Maps), and a timestamp.

No account, name, email address, or device identifier is attached to these submissions. Please do not include personal information in the free-text fields. Only Coba Apps has access to them.

3. Data That Stays on Your Device

  • Your pinned locations, personal notes, filter choices, preferences, and the downloaded dataset are stored only in the App’s local storage on your device. They are never uploaded.
  • Location: the App uses your location (only while the App is in use) to show your position relative to nearby places. Your position is processed on your device and is not sent to us or to analytics. You can change this permission at any time in iOS Settings.

4. Dataset Downloads

The App downloads the ICW dataset and a compatibility manifest from data.cobaapps.com. These requests carry no user identifier. As with any web server, the server and its hosting provider (Amazon Web Services) may see standard connection information such as your IP address and user agent.

5. Apple Services

Maps, place cards, and place lookups use Apple MapKit, so Apple receives map and place-lookup requests under Apple’s Privacy Policy.

6. Sharing

We do not sell your data. Anonymous analytics are processed by TelemetryDeck on our behalf, and the App’s dataset is hosted on Amazon Web Services. We may disclose information if required by law.

7. Children’s Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13, and has no accounts.

8. Your Rights

Because we do not collect your name, email, or any identifier tied to you, we generally cannot look up data about a specific person. If you believe a submission you made contains personal information, or you have any other privacy request, contact us and we will help.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last Updated” date.
